Challis Dance School

Our History . . .

Jenny Challis trained at the college of the Royal Academy of Dance gaining her LRAD and BA Hons. She is a registered teacher with RAD, ISTD and bbodance. Throughout her career Jenny has worked on the bbodance syllabus review panel, as an examiner for bbodance, a practical teaching supervisor for the RAD teacher training programmer and has taught at many of the leading vocational schools.

Jennys former students have gone on to have illustrious careers continuing their training at Royal Ballet, ENB, Central, Laine, Bird college and London Studio Center. Jenny is also worked as Qualifications Manager for level 4 and teaches at Dancebox Studios and Theatreworks.

In December 2000 Jenny Challis established The Challis School of Dance. Since then the school has continued to grow dramatically with the introduction of RAD ballet exams and ISTD modern and tap exams, and most recently started freework street jazz classes.

As part of the schools 25th anniversary celebrations the school was renamed Challis Dance School

About Us

The Challis School of Dance, established since December 2000, has enjoyed many successes including biannual shows and excellent examination results.

The school caters for children from 2 1/2 to 18 years and helps students prepare for full time training. At the school we get the right mix of fun and excitement together with the discipline and control required for dance.

We currently have approximately 300 pupils in the school. Each year we enter around 100 children for exams in tap, ballet or modern. We regularly enter pupils for vocational exams in London for which we have a 100% pass rate.

Our school show is held at The Aylesbury Waterside Theatre where the children dance on a stage and perform to a live audience. Not only do the children relish such an occasion but it is a wonderful experience for the parents.

The school regularly performs at The O2 and in children’s variety performances in the West End, London. Several of the girls have danced with the English Youth Ballet and National Youth Ballet and one of our pupils has won the Gold Cup for ballet in the Aylesbury Dance Festival.

Students have successfully auditioned for The Royal Ballet School junior, mid and senior associates and classes at the Central Ballet School. We love to celebrate our pupils’ successes and achievements. The Challis School of Dance is about so much more than just attending classes.
